Okay, after summer of indulging and slacking off, it is time to get back on the “making good lifestyle choices” wagon. It should be all the easier this time around, because Miguel is also watching what he eats now and is no longer bringing home blocks of cheese and bacon from the grocery store.
However, my personal will power and motivation are at an all time low. The more he is good and sticks to his diet, the more I find myself waiting for him to go to bed so I can make myself a snack, foraging in the fridge and pantry for any leftover remnants of unhealthy foods. Before he got home yesterday, I did something very bad (rhymes with schmutter schmurger and schmunyion schmings-I love you Culvers!). And then I actually hid the Culvers bag inside of another bag and pushed it to the bottom of the garbage can. Because that is healthy behavior.
Ack. So then I went to the grocery store last night and stocked up on healthy options. I bought mostly fresh and frozen veggies and fruits. The only processed stuff I bought were some Kashi Crackers and Granola bars, because a girl needs some carbs. Kashi makes their stuff with whole grains, and no trans fats or high fructose corn syrups (as recommended in You on a Diet). Oh, and I bought these Garden Harvest Toasted Chips too, because I am a sucker for new stuff and HG advertised these in a recent newsletter (I would have linked to Nabisco site, but it’s all annoying flash pages). Again, they are 100% whole grain trans-fat-free, and are low in sugar and calories. I went with the banana flavor. They’re actually pretty good if you can ignore the fact that bananas do not actually grow in gardens.
One of the things that really helped me last time around was keeping a food journal. I’ve tried to restart it several times since May and have given up and stopped keeping track after a week or so. I need to keep better track and have better accountability for myself. I also need to get back to the gym, although I’m a little worried about that aspect of it as several places that I’ve read about infertility advise NOT exercising too vigorously. So I guess I need to do more yoga and low impact stuff. The new gym class schedule should be out soon, so hopefully I can find additional sessions of yoga or Pilates to get into.
