Squidgey’s surgery was scheduled for yesterday morning. So of course, Sunday he started running a fever. But he was perfectly fine, running around, screaming and playing-just had a fever. When I picked him up Monday from the sitter, to take him to the pediatrician for a required pre-op physical, he was a hot, fevery, cranky mess. Diagnosis? Strep. So we had to cancel the surgery.
Within 5 minutes of getting home from the doctor’s he was running around screaming like maniac, perfectly fine. I’m pretty sure he did it on purpose-he was like “surgery? no thank you!”
The worst part is, we can’t get back on the surgeon’s schedule with an early morning appointment (so that I don’t have starve and dehydrate him all day prior to later surgery) until JUNE 16th. I really, really, really just want to get this over with so I can stop worrying about it and move on.
Sigh. I could go on and on about what a bunch of assholes this pediatric urology unit has working there (i.e. I have to threaten to switch doctors before someone can return a g.d. phone call), but it’s not like there’s another children’s hospital we can go to. By the way, I figured out why someone would want to be a pediatric urologist when I got the EOB for the consult visit: 20 minutes of the doctor’s time = $489!!!
